Things that suck about working in IT

Surfing the web, I stumbled upon one of those ‘things that suck about’ articles relating to IT. I found myself nodding and smiling as I went through the list, but it struck me when I reached the end that they’d overlooked, what is for me, the #1 thing: good manners (or the lack thereof).

It never ceases to amaze me how people forget their manners when going to IT support to ask for something, especially when that support is one level removed i.e. behind a email based ticketing system. The number of times I’ve busted my gut to help somebody out with something, only to have my reply of ‘all fixed. Please let me know if you have any more trouble’ answered with…..silence. How hard would it be for those people to simply click reply and say the (other) magic word ‘Thankyou’ ?
